Normal Penis Size

The size of all the sex organs, including the penis, is determined by genetic inheritance. Large penises seem to run in families, as do small penises. Many scientific studies have proved that penile size has no bearing on either fertility or sexual satisfaction. Men with relatively small penises produce children with the same frequency as do men with unusually large penises.

A normal flaccid penis is anywhere from 2.5 to 5.5 inches long. When erect, however, penises are remarkably similar. A large, flaccid penis gains only slightly in its erect state; a small, flaccid penis can more than double in size. As far as sexual satisfaction goes, surveys among women have concluded that it's not the quantity but the quality of the sexual act that satisfies women. In fact, a very large penis may require some adaptation on a woman's part.

Nevertheless, many men continue to be preoccupied with penile size. Increasing the size of penises has become something of a thriving business. Numerous gadgets guaranteed to make a penis bigger are sold in sex shops and through mail order companies. Primarily, these devices are rubber or metal rings that are placed around the penis to help a man maintain an erection. They do not actually make the penis permanently longer, although it seems bigger while the ring is in place. Such rings are dangerous and can severely damage the penis.
