Erection Problem
If you ask a man how he gets an erection, your chances are very good that he will shrug his shoulders and reply, "I have no idea." And as long as his erections function properly, he really doesn't need to know. But once problems start to occur, many men become curious. They want to find out more about their bodies and discover exactly what happens when they are aroused and everything works or doesn't work. Recent research has revealed that the erection process is actually very complex. There are a number of steps along the way between arousal and a full erection. The process may be slightly different for each man, and it always changes as a man grows from youth to middle age and then to his later years. The Penis A man's penis is made up of three major parts: the root, the body, and the extremity or glans. The root is attached to the pubic bone while the body of the penis is composed of three separate chambers: • The urethra, a tube that carries urine or semen; and • Two erectile chambers, called the corpora cavernosa, which comprise the largest part of the organ, and are made up of spongy tissue that fills with blood during an erection. The glans, or head, is the cap like end of the penis, which is covered with mucous membrane. It is the most sensitive part of the penis. The penis has three major functions: 1. Urination : the urethra carries urine from the bladder out of the body through the end of the penis. 2. Ejaculation: sperm, produced in the testicles, is mixed with seminal and prostatic fluids from seminal vesicles and the prostate, and is transported to the urethra. This combination, semen, passes through the urethra and out of the body when a man ejaculates. 3. Erection: as we will see, an erection has three stages, (1) soft or flaccid, (2) swollen or tumescent, and (3) rigid or erect. An erection occurs as an involuntary response to sexual stimulation. An erection is a very complicated procedure, involving quite a number of steps. Much has been made about the size of a man's penis. The truth is that the non erect penis of the average man measures about 31/2 inches in length and the erect penis of the average man is 5 to 7 inches long. The penis', which has been a source of fascination and even worship for many centuries, is an amazing organ. Designed for procreation, it also brings a man great pleasure and satisfaction, as well as a psychological sense of well being and wholeness. Every man wants a penis that works. |
